Psalms from the Hive

Propolis is amazing!

You can use it for many things

Put it in a hurting ear

Healing and relief it brings.

Clover, Bee, and Revery

Reverie (revery) –(n.) state of dreamy meditation or fanciful musing; a fantastic, visionary, or impractical idea

Otitis media – ear infection –  is one of the most common diseases in children.  Propolis, due to its antibacteria and antifungal action, (as proven by research) can be helpful in treating bacterial and fungal (swimmer’s ear) ear infections.  It also has a slight numbing effect, so it also helps with ear pain associated with these infections.  We have found this in our own experience.  Our adult son has been plagued, since he was a child, with ear infections.  A few years ago, when we were first getting interested in propolis, Nate got an ear infection,  complaining about pain and having to take off of work to go to the doctor.  Instead, I talked him into trying propolis oil!  At the time, Nate thought we were peddling “snake oil”, but I insisted he try it.  He used it 3 times a day, for 3 days, and got rid of his ear pain – no trip to the doctor, no antibiotics!
Last fall, at the OctoberFest, we talked to a family at our booth, who had a four-year-old with an ear ache.  They tried our sample of propolis oil in his ear and went on their way.  An hour later, they came back, their child now out of the stroller and running around feeling fine!  They were convinced, and ended up purchasing several propolis products!

One research study I found tested the effectiveness of a propolis and zinc solution in preventing acute otitis media in children with a history of recurring acute otitis media. (Int J Immunopathol Pharmacol. 2010 Apr)  This study was conducted with 122 children aged 1-5 years with a documented history of recurrent ear infections. Children were evaluated  for the presence of ear infections and related respiratory infections every four weeks. In the 3-month treatment period, otitis media was diagnosed in 31 (50.8%) children given the propolis and zinc suspension and in 43 (70.5%) children in the control group.   The use of a propolis and zinc suspension to children with a history of  recurring ear infections can significantly reduce the risk of new episodes and antibiotic treatment.  There was no problem of safety or tolerability with the propolis use and resulted in  a very good degree of parental satisfaction.

Another study on propolis and ear infections tested it for children’s ear inflammation caused by air pollution.  Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) is a biologically active ingredient of propolis, a product of honeybee hives, which has anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory activities.  Propolis was found to reduce the inflammation and findings suggest that it may be effective as a therapeutic treatment for ear inflammation

And a BONUS benefit my daughter, Sarah discovered – propolis oil can get rid of a dog’s ear mites!  She tried it in her dog Roxie’s ears and it worked! It’s incredible stuff!  I’m more amazed every day.

Try BEE POWER for ear infections!

Psalm 30

I will exalt you, Lord, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me.
Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me.
You, Lord, brought me up from the realm of the dead; you spared me from going down to the pit.

Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people; praise his holy name.
For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
